If it wasn't called poetry,
It was called literature.
Some call it jazz,
Or just plain cool...

Storyteller and Designer, Dalila Brooks, is the founder of LUV is Cool.
In the beginning, we called our poetry workshop series, Trash Talk: Recycling Words because we believed that to reconstructing our thoughts into meaningful messages for ourselves and others was a beneficial exercise and the concept continued with us as we revamped and rebranded.
Because of the impact of social distancing, it was important to create a social environment where people can be themselves and a place where we could celebrate each other's personal space by offering them the freedom to write and speak. The focus for LUV is Cool events has been sharing written stories and/or hearing other people's written stories. They make us who we are, from where we are and how we have perceived our experiences.
Our original program included an environmental cleanup and beatification activities in a community she lived and invested in Washington, D.C. The activities included neighborhood trash cleanup, tree planting and making art out of recycled materials. The part of the program that was included later was the performance art or spoken word/poetry piece, which is what solely exists today and has pop-up events all over the east coast.
The mission of LUV is Cool, which has been rewarding yet different than one might expect, is to expand peace work by strengthening our connection to humanity through story.
